From the time I was a child, I loved to draw and paint. The activity always brought calm in times of stress or chaos. In adult life, there has been little time to spend on art but as I have gotten older, the need to create is calling me back. The more time I spend painting, the more I never want to stop. I hope that this gentle, happy feeling is conveyed in my work and that those who view it, can feel it too.
I love the vibrant yet transparent look of watercolor. The "happy accidents" that occur with this medium are always a delight. For me, nothing else compares. Watercolor is often considered to be the most difficult medium to work with but I have come to appreciate the challenge it presents to my inner control freak.
The characteristics of this media allows me to amplify the simple beauty that exists in nature. I look closely to discover and bring out distinctly unique patterns of light and shape.
My goal is to create a bold and ongoing reminder of these natural gifts in places where we spend our precious time. I want my art give the viewer escape from the present moment, shifting to a place of peace and wonder.
Every day I run across things that beg to be painted. Things that capture my attention and make my heart smile. My cell phone camera is full of them. Sunlight streaming through big billowy clouds. The way the light illuminates the fine needles on a cactus. A completely candid shot of a child laughing or the soulful eyes of a beloved pet. I love to use my own colors to change the energy of an image and will change the composition to create a flow that I find appealing.
